My mother died of breast cancer at 49 years of age leaving six children and a husband behind, devastated. 5 years ago one of my closest friends was diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer at age 35. A wife and mother of 3 young boys, her life was turned upside down.
I felt inspired by these two women to do something for younger women with breast cancer. Through a lot of hard work I managed to secure the franchise for Fashion Targets Breast Cancer for Ireland. This was made possible mainly because of my involvement with EDI and its excellent reputation. What attracted me to EDI was that it is a united voice for women and their families affected by breast cancer.
Patient advocacy is growing and effecting change in healthcare systems throughout the world. Women who have had breast cancer are a valuable resource because they have been through the system. It is possible to make a difference and change things for the better for breast cancer patients in Ireland. Europa Donna's mission and vision strongly supports this.
